Alternatively, you can install the Google Photos app instead. This is the best option for the iPad. Google Photos is Google's cloud photo backup service and comes with a slew of handy features for editing and organizing your pictures online.

It also includes Google Lens: open any image from your camera roll in the Google Photos app and with just a tap of your finger you can analyze it for information with Google Lens.

But the main difference is that Google Photos doesn't let you search in real time with your iPhone or iPad camera. However, if that's not a problem, just download the latest version of the Google Photos app from the App Store.

Both apps will request access to your photo library when you first open them or when you try to use the Google Lens tool. This is necessary so that Google can run your snaps through its servers. Even if you're using Google Lens in real time, some features require you to capture a still image of your subject before the software can analyze it.

How to use Google Lens in real time on your iPhone

If you want to search in real time with your iPhone, start the Google app first.
